Abstract

The purpose of this article is to show the social character of Fichte's contractualism. To achieve this purpose, we begin by examining the connection between work and citizenship as a condition of political legitimacy. That connection is then presented within the framework of the always possible historical development of human nature. Finally, the reasons for Fichte's reception as a precursor of Germanic socialism are indicated.
