Representations of the Antigone Myth in the Latin American Stage: Theatre, Resistance and Memory

The present study is based on a series of questions linked to the persistence of the figure of Antigone in Latin-American theatrical performances and to the possibility of considering theatre as a cultural practice associated to the preservation of memory. The different Latin-American versions of the myth make clear that, as Byung-Chul Han (2016) points out, violence is a constant in History and its ways of showing up vary according to the social constellations. While in the Ancient Greece the war was a material exercise over the bodies of the fighters and the victims, nowadays violence turns anonymous, unsubjectivated and systemic.
