About the Journal

Aims and Scope

Filología is a biannual journal published by the Instituto de Filología y Literaturas Hispánicas “Dr. Amado Alonso” of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras at the University of Buenos Aires. The journal serves as the Institute’s scholarly journal, bringing together the work of specialists from different areas of research (theoretical and empirical), including grammar and linguistics, Spanish literatures, foreign literatures, and literary theory. Since its founding in 1949, Filología has published original and unpublished works related to the study of language, literature, and culture.

The journal publishes research in the field of literary and philological studies, including literary theory and criticism, Spanish and Latin American literature, foreign literatures, comparative studies, and textual criticism. It also welcomes contributions in theoretical and applied linguistics, as well as in the history of language and studies of Spanish in its different varieties.

Publication Frequency

Filología currently publishes two issues per year (July and December).

Peer Review Process

Original and unpublished manuscripts submitted to the journal will be evaluated by two or more external reviewers under a double-blind review system, whereby the identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the evaluation process. In the event of conflicting reviews, the Editorial Board will request an additional evaluation and, on the basis of this new report, will make the final decision. Authors will be notified whether the manuscript has been accepted or rejected within an estimated maximum period of 10 weeks. Manuscripts may also be returned to authors for revision in accordance with the reviewers’ recommendations within the agreed deadlines. As the final stage of the evaluation process, all contributions included in each issue of Filología are examined by the Editorial Council of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras of the University of Buenos Aires, which grants final approval for each issue of the journal.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to:

• invite contributions or other texts from specialists whenever it deems appropriate (such contributions will also be subject to external review);
• reject submissions that fall outside the journal’s thematic scope or do not comply with the style guidelines;
• determine the order in which accepted works will be published.

Section Policies

Each issue of Filología may contain between two and four sections. The Articles section includes scholarly works covering the various areas of research pursued at the Institute. The Dossier section brings together sets of papers organized around a common theme related to the aims of the journal, with an appropriate title and an introduction prepared by the dossier editor(s). The Research Notes section includes contributions reflecting different theoretical and methodological approaches to scholarly work. The Reviews section features reviews of recently published books that contribute to the study of the various research areas developed at the Institute.

All sections of the journal are indexed and open to submissions. Submissions to the Articles and Dossier sections are subject to double-blind peer review, whereas Research Notes and Reviews are assessed by the Editorial Board and the Reviews Committee, respectively.

Open Access and Reuse Policy

Filología is an open-access academic publication, meaning that all content is freely available at no cost to users or their institutions. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without prior permission from the publisher or the author. This open-access policy is in accordance with the 2001 Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).

Copyright and Repository Deposit Policy

Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication. The work, distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License, allows third parties to use the published material provided that the appropriate reference is included.

Authors may deposit their published works in institutional or subject repositories, thereby increasing the reach and visibility of their research. They may deposit both the pre-print version (draft prior to peer review) and the post-print version (final version after peer review but without the journal’s final layout) of their work. This policy allows authors to share and disseminate their research effectively while respecting the rights of the journal.

APC

Filología does not charge any fees for the submission or publication of articles.

Digital Preservation Policy

Filología is part of the institutional repository Filo:Digital of the Facultad de Filosofía y Letras at the University of Buenos Aires, which digitally archives and ensures the preservation of scholarly material. The journal is also preserved in the institutional repository of the University of Buenos Aires (Sistema de Bibliotecas e Información de la Universidad de Buenos Aires, SISBI).

 Self-Archiving Policy

This journal allows authors to deposit all versions of articles in repositories, institutional websites, and other platforms.

 Research Data Deposit

Argentine authors should take into account that, pursuant to Law No. 26.899, “Creation of Institutional Open Access Digital Repositories, Individual or Shared,” if the research results published in the article have been funded or co-funded with public resources, they are required to deposit their works and primary data in institutional repositories, whether individual or shared. The citation of the deposited dataset must appear in the references section of the resulting publication. Citing datasets acknowledges authorship and facilitates their identification, validation, and reuse; it also supports data metrics and impact assessment and promotes transparency in scientific research. Each dataset and subset of data must be cited independently with its own DOI or similar identifier.
