Publication ethics
Filología adheres to the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In compliance with this code, the journal is committed to preventing any conflict of interest among authors, reviewers, and editors. A conflict of interest is understood as a divergence between scientific/academic work and the personal interests of any of the parties involved in the editorial process—namely editors, external reviewers, and authors—whose ethical responsibilities are detailed below.
Editors
The Editorial Board will select reviewers with recognized expertise in the subject of each submission, avoiding conflicts of interest that could affect the impartiality of the process. Members of the editorial team undertake to maintain the confidentiality of the manuscripts and not to disclose information to individuals outside the process. They will also ensure a double-blind review system between authors and reviewers during and after the evaluation process.
The journal will communicate in a timely manner the receipt, evaluation, and final decision regarding submissions, so that the process does not exceed ten weeks from the date of submission. While reviewers’ reports constitute an important input, the final decision on the acceptance or rejection of articles rests exclusively with the Editorial Board.
Before being sent for review, submissions will undergo a preliminary screening to verify their thematic relevance, compliance with formal standards, and the authenticity of authorship. Contributions that do not meet these requirements will be rejected at this stage.
For sections without external review (research notes, book reviews, among others), the decision will be made by the Editorial Board.
If errors are identified after the article has been published, the journal will issue the necessary corrections or retractions, while at all times preserving the anonymity of the reviewers.
Reviewers
Reviewers must provide objective, well-founded reports within the established deadlines. All submitted texts will be assessed on the basis of their intellectual content, and the evaluation process is intended to contribute to the academic quality of the manuscripts. Reviewers undertake to preserve the confidentiality of the works they receive and not to use the information contained therein for their own benefit. They must refrain from accepting review assignments in cases of conflict of interest or when they lack sufficient expertise in the subject area. They are also required to inform the editorial team of any potential cases of plagiarism, redundant publication, or other ethical irregularities. At all times, they must respect the double-blind review system and avoid any action that could compromise the anonymity of authors and reviewers. Filología also adheres to the Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) regarding the evaluation of research.
Authors
Authors must submit original and unpublished work, with appropriate citation of the sources used, and must not engage in plagiarism, self-plagiarism, or other improper practices. They are responsible for the accuracy of the data, results, and arguments presented, and must ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously under review by another publication. They must also properly acknowledge the authorship of all individuals who have made a significant contribution to the work (see “Authorship Acknowledgment” below) and disclose any sources of funding or potential conflicts of interest. If errors or inaccuracies are identified after publication, authors must promptly notify the editorial team and cooperate in the publication of the necessary corrections or retractions.

Authorship Acknowledgment
Those submitting a contribution to this journal must ensure that the manuscript has been read and approved by all listed authors, and that each of them agrees to its submission to the journal.
For original articles, authorship recognition should be based on: (1) substantial contributions to the conception and design of the study, or to the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of data; (2) drafting the article or critically revising it for important intellectual content; and (3) final approval of the version to be published. The different authorship roles considered are specified below and, where applicable, must be declared in accordance with the CRediT taxonomy:
- Conceptualization – Ideas; formulation or development of the main research goals and aims.
- Data curation – Management activities to annotate (produce metadata), clean, and maintain research data (including software code, where necessary for interpreting the data itself) for initial use and later reuse.
- Formal analysis – Application of statistical, mathematical, computational, or other formal techniques to analyze or synthesize study data.
- Funding acquisition – Acquisition of financial support for the project leading to this publication.
- Investigation – Conducting the research and investigation process, specifically performing experiments or data/evidence collection.
- Methodology – Development or design of the methodology; creation of models.
- Project administration – Management and coordination responsibility for the planning and execution of the research activity.
- Resources – Provision of study materials, reagents, materials, patients, laboratory samples, animals, instrumentation, computing resources, or other analysis tools.
- Software – Programming, software development; design of computer programs; implementation of computer code and supporting algorithms; testing of existing code components.
- Supervision – Oversight and leadership responsibility for the planning and execution of research activities, including external mentorship beyond the core team.
- Validation – Verification, whether as part of the activity or separately, of the overall reproducibility/replicability of results, experiments, and other research outputs.
- Visualization – Preparation, creation, and/or presentation of the published work, specifically data visualization/presentation.
- Writing – original draft – Preparation, creation, and/or presentation of the published work, specifically writing the initial draft (including substantive translation).
- Writing – review & editing – Preparation, creation, and/or presentation of the published work by members of the original research group, specifically critical review, commentary, or revision, including pre- and post-publication stages.
Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be included in the acknowledgments. The CRediT taxonomy describes all roles of academic contribution (hdlab.space/taxonomia). All authors must be entered at the time of submission.
How to include this information in articles
It should be added at the end of the article under a subheading:
Authorship Contributions
Juana María (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-xxxx-xxxx) and Susana Pérez (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-xxxx-xxxx) contributed to the conception of the idea and the design of the study; Nora González (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-xxxx-xxxx) participated in the research process and data collection; María Domínguez (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-xxxx-xxxx) contributed to the analysis and interpretation of the data. All authors contributed to the writing of the article, approved the final version for publication, and are accountable for all aspects of the manuscript.
Anti-Plagiarism Policy
Filología maintains a policy against plagiarism and self-plagiarism in both electronic and printed sources in order to ensure the originality of all manuscripts. All submissions are screened using plagiarism-detection software (Plagium, Dupli Checker, Plagiarisma). If plagiarism or self-plagiarism is detected, the manuscript will not be considered for publication.
Statement on the Use of Generative AI
The use of generative artificial intelligence tools in the preparation of manuscripts must be explicitly declared. Authors must indicate the tool used and the scope of its involvement (for example, writing, translation, data analysis, or image generation), providing this information in a specific section of the work under the heading “Use of Artificial Intelligence.”
Artificial intelligence tools may not be credited as authors. Responsibility for the content of the manuscript, its originality, and the proper citation of sources rests solely with the authors.
The editorial team may request additional details regarding the use of artificial intelligence and take appropriate measures in cases of potential non-compliance.
Statement on Misconduct
The journal is committed to preventing and detecting improper practices, such as plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, image manipulation, redundant publication, or any other form of unethical conduct. When appropriate, it will publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies, in accordance with COPE recommendations.
In the event of allegations or suspicions of misconduct—including authorship disputes or intellectual property claims—an initial investigation will be conducted, involving confidential communication with the parties concerned. If a satisfactory resolution is not reached or reasonable doubts persist, the journal may refer the case to the authors’ affiliated or funding institutions, following the procedures suggested by COPE.
Similarly, if irregularities are identified in data, images, figures, or other materials, the corresponding investigative protocols will be applied.
When misconduct is confirmed in already published articles, the journal will proceed with their retraction or correction, as appropriate, ensuring the transparency of the scholarly record. Retracted articles will remain accessible in the journal’s archive, clearly identified as such, in accordance with international best practices.
Complaints and Appeals
Any complaint or claim related to the operation of the journal, its staff, the Editorial Board, or the publishing entity may be submitted by email addressed to the Editorial Board. Upon receipt of the communication, the editorial team will acknowledge it within five business days, assess the case impartially, and, if necessary, consult with the parties involved before issuing a decision. The complainant will be notified of the measures adopted within a maximum period of thirty calendar days. In all cases, the confidentiality of the process and respectful treatment are guaranteed.
