Author Guidelines

Type of Contributions

Patristica et mediævalia accepts original works written in Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, and Italian. It is essential that authors have at least initiated postgraduate studies.

- Articles: between 6 500 and 15 000 words 
- Critical Editions
- Translations introduced and noted*
- Critical notes: between 2 000 and 4 000 words**
- Information on academic interest and chronicles: up to 1 000 words
- Reviews: between 1 000 and 2 500 words***

* Translations that already have a version in the suggested language will not be accepted unless they are based on a new critical edition of the source. Source text is required. In addition to Patristic, Medieval and Renaissance texts, sources that, even being late antique or classical, have been recovered during the Middle Ages to deal with crucial issues are accepted. Such relevance must be explicitly justified in the introduction.
** By critical note should be understood the reflection raised from one or several recent publications or a current issue.
*** Books must have a maximum of a two-year publication date to be reviewed. Reviews do not have footnotes or final bibliography. "To submit books for review, please contact Dr Violeta Cervera Novo at patristicaetmediaevalia_resenas@filo.uba.ar.

Patristica et Mediæalia accepts monographic dossiers formed by a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 papers.  

• Dossiers will be coordinated by one or two editors invited by the Editorial Board. Spontaneous applications will be considered too, but they will be previously evaluated by the Editorial Advisory Board.  

• In both cases, editors must send a proposal in keeping with the journal scope, between 1.000 and 1.500 worth. Spontaneous applications must include, moreover, a brief CV (no more than 10 lines) of each editor.

• Proposals that are a direct result of seminars or any academic events will not be published as such.

• The journal will give priority to innovative subjects that entail an effective contribution to the Medieval Philosophy field, and will take into consideration the potential impact of the proposal.

• When publishing, the editors will write an introduction, highlighting the relevance and cohesion of the selected papers.

• Each dossier will be subjected to the same evaluation process for free contributions, i.e., sent for peer review (double-blind).

• Editors are responsible for ensuring that papers follow editorial rules, deadlines, and modifications suggested by the referees. 

Except for reviews, reports, or relevant information, PetM will not accept more than one contribution from the same author every two years, nor allow the coordination of thematic dossiers more than once every ten years. Nevertheless, the Editorial Board reserves the right to waive this rule in exceptional cases.

Submissions

We encourage the authors to send their contributions at any time of the year through the journal website. However, they can also send them to patristicaetmediaevalia@filo.uba.ar

• All files must be in .doc or .docx format.

• All files must state the name and last name of the author, maximum title degree, place or places of work and the ORCID code (create your account here). If the contribution had more than one author, the CRediT taxonomy must be used to specify the participation roles.

• Articles, translations and critical editions should have:

- A title
- An abstract (between 150 and 300 words)
- Between 3 and 5 keywords

All these should be written both in the main language of the paper and in English. If the main language were English, the second abstract must be in Spanish. Please remember the specific grammatical rules –especially concerning capital and lowercase characters– of each language.

• Reviews and chronicles do not use footnotes. Reviews must point out the complete information of the publication, including the ISBN and the total number of pages.

• Contributions should be submitted according to the following guidelines. If not, they will not be considered for evaluation.

  • Tous les tableaux et figures sont numérotés et définis.
  • L'autorisation de publier toutes les photos, tous les ensembles de données et tout autre matériel fourni avec cette soumission a été obtenue.

1. The authors who publish in this magazine accept the following conditions:

  • They retain the copyright and grant to the magazine the right of the first publication, with the work registered under the Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License that allows third parties to use what is published as long as they mention the authorship of the work and the first publication in this magazine.
